Guatemala Mission Trip 2020

This coming January, I will be going to Guatemala again for a missions trip and I would love for you to be involved! This will be my 4th Guatemala STM 😀 Going on this trip means a lot to me, as my heart is drawn to building relationships with the people of this beautiful country.

I love seeing how our team grows closer while serving, and I look forward to grow in my own faith during this trip. We will be serving in Chel, a small rural part of Guatemala 9 hours away from the city. Please pray for our travel safety to and around Guatemala as the roads we will take are very bumpy, windy and landslides do happen on occasions. We must put any of our concerns and worries in regards to weather, tires, car parts, etc. all into God’s hands and trust He will take care of us. The Ixil people are a Mayan minority group that has been through a lot of hardships from the Guatemalan Civil War. As a team, we have been reading a book titled Escaping the Fire based on a true story of how an Ixil Mayan pastor led people during the Civil War through his faith in God. I recommend this book if you are interested in learning about Guatemalan culture and seeing God’s ability to overcoming struggles.

A bulk part of our trip this year will be visiting local churches to build relationships with the leaders. Our partner, Hope Bible Mission Organization develops long-term partnerships to grow community leaders and to develop educational resources. The aim is to build church communities that is rooted in Christ and have a strong biblical foundation. It is truly encouraging to witness these leaders’ passion and enthusiasm to learning about the Gospel and teaching others what they have learned – many of these individuals travel hours to attend these trainings! While at these church visits, we will also be participating in the children’s ministry! As a team we have been practicing puppetry and learning Spanish songs like Yo Tengo Gazo to connect with the children there. Last year, we were blessed with having time to play with the children in the village. On one of the days we went to Church, about 8-10 children followed us back to our host family’s yard. Each day the number of children grew, and by the third day, there were over 30 children in the yard! This time, we want to focus more on connecting with the kids – not only playing with them, but sharing the Gospel through songs and worship!

In all my previous short term mission trips, God met and provided our every need to go and to experience Him. I have left Guatemala with a growing desire to continue serving back at home through Higher Heights Basketball Camp, small groups and serving with the youth, all while growing and strengthening my relationship with Christ. As most of you may know,  I went to Guatemala for my first missions trip in July 2017, and I also ran the NYC Marathon in November 2017 to raise funds for Alvaro Diaz, one of the local missionaries in Magdalena, Guatemala! In 2018, I served again through Students International with my brother in Christ, Stanley. Then in 2019, I went with OCM’s team! All of this was of course, made possible by God’s provision and grace, but was thankfully with your support!!

I hope you know that together we are making an impact.

I am praying that this trip will allow for God to continue stretching me beyond my comfort zone, for me to learn how to serve with boldness and humility, and to grow more intimately with Christ.

Together, we can continue to be a substantial part of what God is doing to uplift the community in Chel, Guatemala. Will you please pray about the part God wants you to play in this outreach?

My team and I appreciate all and any prayer and financial support we will receive. If you have any questions about this outreach I would love to talk with you. I am extremely excited about this opportunity to serve and hope you can share in my excitement.

Blessings and in Him,
